Fun, family-friendly and not particularly expensive, this popular Italian Shawlands venue seems to have been at this spot for ever. The restaurant is noisy, cluttered and fun. It seems to appeal to all age groups, from grannies to teens and certainly children who will be supplied with a picture to colour in and crayons (happily this tends to keep them quiet for all of oh...five minutes!) The waiters are noisey too and seem happy to join in the party atmosphere.
Food-wise, there's your usual selection of pizzas and popular pastas to choose from. And try the lasagne - there's a reason why it's the restaurant's best seller! There's a fine array of garlicky and cheesey breads to gorge on. The portions are a decent size too. You'll be served quickly as there seems to be quite a fast turn around, especially on weekends and Friday nights.
Turn up in your jeans or get dressed up for a night with the girls or lads - anything fits here. And you can be as racous as you like (get on a volume level with the kids). They also have plenty of big tables so it's good for large families and birthday parties.
A word of warning...try and avoid this place when there's a big concert or football match on at Hampden Park as this tends to be the default restaurant of choice for out-of-towners and it'll be impossible to get a table.
The only problem we have with this Di Maggio's is that Italian food can be very filling. We never know when to stop and always end up waddling away stuffed to the gunnels. Still, saves us buying food the following day!
